Our Story
The Background
I was born and raised in La Paz, Bolivia by my Bolivian mother and German father. I met my husband in college and married him years later. We have lived in Australia and Ecuador before settling back in the little college town of West Lafayette, where we are raising our two beautiful children.
Growing up in La Paz, we would go to our corner “tienda” (neighborhood store) to purchase fresh local bread, called Marraquetas, for breakfast every day. When I left home I missed this bread so much, never imagining that one day I would be the one making them.
In 2020, Regina, my faithful sourdough starter, was born and it opened the door to the world of bread for me and my family. A deeper dive into all things bread allowed me to “crack” the code to baking my beloved and traditional Bolivian bread, La Marraqueta!
Today, I bake a mix of naturally leavened (sourdough), yeasted breads and a variety of pastries, that I sell at our local Farmers Markets and through online orders. I am proud to use organic and stone milled flour from a local mill (Janie’s Mill). You can rest easy knowing that I am using fresh and quality ingredients in my bakes.
I enjoy sharing the wonders of good bread with my community and hope to inspire others into this magnificent world. This is why I have also started teaching the art of sourdough baking through my Sourdough 101 Workshop and in collaboration with our local store A Pinch of Pepper.
